Celebrities Come Out for Capital Pride Parade

Parade to Take Place June 13 at 4:30 PM in Dupont Circle Neighborhood

Washington, DC – National and local celebrities will join the 2015 Capital Pride Parade, presented by Marriott, on Saturday, June 13, beginning at 4:30 pm in the Dupont and Logan Circle neighborhoods. Actor and activist Wilson Cruz and DC LGBTA Pride founder Deacon Maccubbin will be the Grand Marshals. Actor Daniel Franzese (“Mean Girls,” “Looking”) will serve as a celebrity judge at the Judges Review Stand sponsored by TD Bank. And actor, author, and internet sensation Max Emerson (a/k/a “Maxisms”) will also join the parade.

All four will attend the “Crack of Noon” Parade Day Pride Brunch presented and hosted by The Dupont Circle Hotel at 12:00 noon.

“We are thrilled and honored to have Wilson and Deacon as this year’s Parade Grand Marshals,” said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of the Capital Pride Alliance. “Together, they represent what we have accomplished in the last 40 years and the work we still have to do in the future.”

“Wilson Cruz may be best known for playing gay teen Rickie Vasquez on ‘My So-Called Life,’ but he has a long history of LGBTA activism,” said Bos. “He has been a strong voice for LGBTA youth, particularly youth of color and has spent a lot of time volunteering with LGBTA youth groups. Wilson’s work represents the future of the LGBTA movement and we’re very happy to have him as a Grand Marshal.”

“Deacon’s accomplishments are legendary in DC,” said Bernie Delia, Board President of the Capital Pride Alliance. “He organized the first annual Pride celebration in DC. He opened and operated the Lambda Rising bookstore for 35 years. He contributed greatly to LGBT advancement in DC both politically and culturally. We are honored to recognize his work on behalf of all of us who have followed him.”

“We are also excited to have Daniel Franzese and Max Emerson join us,” said Bos. “They are both up and coming performers who are building a following among LGBTA youth. We think having them here will bring more fun and energy to the parade.”

“The Capital Pride Parade is one of the marquee events of the LGBTA Pride celebration,” said Delia. “The addition of Wilson and Deacon as the Grand Marshals makes it even more of a must-see event. We can’t wait to see the creativity the DC community will bring to the parade and the ‘Flashback’ theme.”
