Join us to celebrate and commemorate the continued commitment of the Capital Pride Alliance to secure the advances we have made as well as move forward on the important work that yet remains. The Red Party will include dancing to the club music of DJs Tezrah, Wess, and Tracy Young, and special performances throughout the night by: TV (Glee) and Broadway performer Alex Newell; breakout drag performer and TV celebrity (RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul’s Drag U) Jujubee; veteran female impersonator and pageant winner Kristina Kelly; and burlesque host, plus Pretty Boi Drag co-producer, Pretty Rik E.

Ten years ago in 2008, a group of Pride volunteers, on behalf of the community, established the Capital Pride Alliance to continue the work that Whitman-Walker Health had undertaken several years earlier to produce the annual Pride Celebration in the Nation’s Capital each June and Capital Trans Pride each May.

December 1 is World AIDS Day. We encourage everyone to start the day by participating in the Whitman-Walker Health Walk & 5K to End HIV 2018.

About the DJs and Performers

Alex Newell

Alex Newell is thrilled to be making his Broadway debut in the revival of “Once On This Island” and is breaking barriers as he plays the traditionally female role, ‘Asaka, Mother of the Earth.’ The New York Times says Mama Will Provide is “sung to rattle the roof by the ferocious Alex Newell,” and Entertainment Weekly raves, “[it] is a highlight and one of the show’s most memorable and most cheered moments.” While best-known for his powerful performance as ‘Unique Adams’ on Fox’s “Glee,” the stage is where it all began for Newell. Some of his favorite roles include Hairspray (Motormouth Maybelle), Cinderella (Fairy Godmother), and Saturday Night Fever (Candy). Alex is also a recording artist and released his first EP, “Power” in 2016 after signing with Atlantic Records. His music has also been featured on HBO’s Martin Scorsese series, “Vinyl.”

Jujubee

Jujubee appeared on the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race when she was 25, finishing in third place out of twelve. Jujubee served as one of the drag professors on RuPaul’s Drag U, a spin-off of Drag Race that premiered on the Logo network in June 2010. She made at least one appearance on all three seasons of Drag U. She was also nominated for a 2010 NewNowNext Award for “Most Addictive Reality Star.” On August 6, 2012, it was announced that Jujubee was one of twelve past Drag Race contestants selected to join the first cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars that premiered on the Logo network on October 22, 2012. Paired with contestant Raven to form Team Rujubee the duo managed to make it to the finale which aired on November 26, 2012, where she landed in third/fourth place with fellow contestant Shannel.

She appeared in the music video for RuPaul’s song “Jealous of My Boogie”. She later appeared in the music video “Queen” by Mimi Imfurst’s band Xelle, along with other RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants.[

DJ Tracy Young

Over the last two decades, the electronic music dynamo has taken her irresistible passion for dance music from the underground to the mainstream. Always finding comfort in music, the Washington DC native began cultivating her eclectic taste music from an early age.

Bursting on the gay dance scene, Young’s celebrity and popularity skyrocketed putting her live presence and dance compilation cd’s in great demand. It wasn’t only the gay community that was drawn to Young’s magnetic musical pull.Musical legends from Cher to Sean Combs and from Shakira to The Smashing Pumpkins, fell under her spell, booking the disc jockey to spin their exclusive parties. During the historical presidential race, Young was handpicked by Hillary Clinton to DJ a rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Through Madonna’s personal endorsement as her “go-to” DJ, Young became a global electronic music celebrity. Her demand grew to an international level as both DJ and Producer. Tracy has released over 7 musical compilations on her own record label FEROSH. She has remixed for over 100 musical artists and has racked up 48 #1 Billboard Club hits including 13 Madonna remixes as well as imaginative electronic reinventions of songs by Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Pet Shop Boys and Enrique Iglesias.

Kristina Kelly

Larger than Life, Kristina Kelly is a 20 plus year veteran in the art form of female impersonation. These amazing years have allowed her to entertain in over 40 states, won over 80 pageants including 1 national pageant which is All American Goddess at Large, many television and radio appearances to name a few.

Kristina has many shows throughout Washington DC but her passion is giving back, she has raised countless amounts of money for different global and local charities.

Kristina’s motto is “Tomorrow is not promised so live for today, Do something good for someone else because you never know when you might be saving someone’s life!”

DJ Tezrah

As a Fairfax, Virginia native, Tezrah learned to play classical piano at age five, which laid the foundation for her future investigation into computer music programs. Before pursuing a professional career in the music industry, Tezrah graduated with a pre-medical degree in Neuroscience from William & Mary, attended the Harvard School of Design Summer Program, and was accepted into the Graduate Architecture Program at Catholic University. She also played semi-pro soccer before her full immersion into the DJ profession.

As an award-winning DJ, Tezrah reigns in her fifth year of DJing in the Washington DC area, specializing in Top 40, electronic dance music, Hip Hop, and other genres. She is hailed as one of DC’s and the LGBTQ community’s brightest stars. Her sound is eclectic, combining the newest music seamlessly with older classic songs. Winner of the DJ Battle for Her HRC for 2014 and 2015, headliner at the 9:30 Club, headliner for a 5,000+ crowd at Hampton Roads Pride 2016, and voted Best DJ by the Washington Blade in 2017 and 2018, she has garnered a solid following from all over the eastern seaboard.

Other projects of Tezrah’s include working on an original EP album and event planning as the founder of WhiskHER DC.

Pretty Rik E

Pretty Rik E, also know as “DC’s Daddy”, is co-producer of Pretty Boi Drag, a QPOC-centered drag king troupe based in Washington, DC. Performing in DC since 2014, Pretty Rik E has done it all! Including hosting burlesque and variety events throughout the city, stand-up comedy and occasionally hosts a radio show on WPFW’s Inside Out Radio, a queer collective of radio hosts and interviewers.

DJ Wess

Wess (aka WESSTHEDJ) began spinning records over 20 years ago in Raleigh, NC. He got his break after moving to Miami in the 90’s and began working as a DJ at several celebrated South Beach nightspots. Since moving to DC in 2002, he has played across the country and held residencies at some of DC’s biggest and best venues including Velvet Nation and most recently Town Danceboutique, where he worked for over 10 years.

Wess has been awarded with the title of Best DJ by the readers of the Washington Blade (2004, 2008, 2009, 2013) and the Washington City Paper (2008). He spins an eclectic mix depending on the party but usually never strays too far from his favorites: House and Disco.

Currently, you can catch Wess spinning all around DC or at his monthly Church party at Trade.
