A Public Forum Addressing Violence Against Black Transwomen
On behalf of the Community Prosecution Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia (USAODC) and Casa Ruby, we would like to invite you to join us for a public forum addressing violence against African American transgender women in the city. The forum’s panelists will include Jazmin Sutherlin, Community Engagement Team Manager at The DC Center, Charmaine Eccles, Center for Black Equity, Kisha Allure, Casa Ruby, Dr. Kamilah Woodson, Casa Ruby and Howard University, Monroe Elise of FLUX DC, a representative for the Special Liaison Unit of Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and a representative from the Victim/Witness Section of USAODC with Rayceen Pendarvis as the moderator. The panel will address the necessity of reporting a crime, working with prosecutors, victim resources available through USAODC, MPD and the community, victim impact statements, impact on mental health and information the panelists have acquired throughout their experiences.
