CPA strongly condemns recent attacks against Asian-Americans
The Capital Pride Alliance condemns in the strongest terms possible the recent wave of hate, racism, and violence against members of the Asian-American community. The mass shooting that occurred earlier this week in Atlanta, Georgia, in which eight lives were taken, six of whom were women of Asian descent, is abhorrent and indicative of an alarming increase in vicious hate crimes against Asian-Americans. There is no question that expressions of racism by political leaders during the past few years have perpetuated hate and discrimination. We must stand up against this anti-Asian rhetoric whenever and wherever it appears.
Conversations and actions against discrimination and violence must start and continue with each one of us. We must speak out and join together, working to advance human dignity, equal rights, and a world free from prejudice and violence. The Capital Pride Alliance stands with the Asian-American community during this frightening and challenging time for the community, and we are committed to working diligently with our partners and the community to create safe spaces for all.
