CPA Announces Venue Change for Colorful Fest 2021, Tracy Young as headliner for Tea Dance, and Partnership with Queer and Trans Asian American and Pacific Islander community

Washington DC, October 11, 2021……. The Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) announces that its inaugural Colorful Fest, proudly presented by Xfinity and Nissan, which will be held this Sunday, October 17, is being moved to Dock 5, located at Union Market.  This change will allow more space for participants and greater access to amenities. The Block Party and Fair will feature small independent businesses, community groups, artisans, and food, with entertainment throughout the day, including a pop-up from the highly anticipated As You Are Bar. “As You Are Bar is thrilled to collaborate with the Capital Pride Alliance to bring you Colorful Fest! We’re honored to be a part of this event, bringing inclusivity, celebration, and fun,” said Jo McDaniel, co-owner. “We can’t wait to see you!” CPA is excited to announce that Grammy Award Winner Tracy Young, will return to D.C. to headline the tea dance. The event is free and proof of vaccination is required. Attendees are encouraged to make a $5 donation to support the GivePride365 Fund and the Washington, DC Bid to host WorldPride 2025.

CPA is partnering with the Queer and Trans Asian American and Pacific Islander (QTAAPI) community at Colorful Fest to showcase the vibrant and diverse AAPI community and culture in the Washington metropolitan area. Features will include a Chinese Dragon Lion dance, traditional Korean drumming, bhangra dancers, Thai folk dancers, and performances by South Asian drag superstar KaMani Sutra. “The QTAAPI Committee is excited to partner with Capital Pride Alliance at Colorful Fest 2021,” said Abdul Khan a QTAAPI Committee Member.  Khan invites everyone to join the celebration this Sunday “to experience performances from talented community members representing the vast diversity of languages, religions, and traditions of Queer and Trans Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the Washington DC area.” Additional performances will be announced this week on the Colorful Fest website.

Colorful Fest weekend will also include a few partner events. On Friday, October 15 the Latinx History Project will host their 15th DC Latinx Pride Official Dance Party. On Saturday, October 16, the community is invited to experience Club Pride, in partnership with the All Things Music Festival, in addition to Cake, a fall Pride party, in partnership with CO/OP, to close out Saturday night.

Funds raised and donated during Colorful Fest will benefit the Capital Pride Alliance, its recently formed GivePride365 Fund and support the Washington, DC Bid to host WorldPride 2025.
