THE CAPITAL PRIDE ALLIANCE TO HOST THE MAGIC OF PRIDE CONFERENCE
The Conference Will Bring Together More Than 120 Professionals from Around the Country
Washington, D.C., March 6, 2017 – The Magic of Pride Conference, hosted by The Capital Pride Alliance, will take place from Friday, March 10, through Sunday March 12, at the Washington Hilton. The conference will bring together more than 120 professionals representing Pride organizations and other professions. Attendees will be coming from the national capital region and from areas throughout the northeast and southeast regions of the U.S. The conference will explore and advance critical issues, share best practices, and offer educational sessions to help accelerate the LGBTA Pride movement, and aggressively target solutions on a wide range of topics through workshop and plenaries. Friday evening will include a Welcome Reception hosted at the Human Right Campaign Equality Center and featuring various culinary tasting stations. The Gala Dinner on Saturday night, March 11, is at The Mansion on O Street, and includes a live performance by renowned singer Ultra Naté.
Guest speakers will include:
Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington, President and a Founder of the Social Justice Training Institute. On Friday, March 10, at The Phillips Collection, Rev. Dr. Washington will guide Pride organizers and other LGBT leaders through a journey of self-discovery and awareness around individual prejudice and how it impacts the work we do within our organizations and communities.
Sarah McBride, National Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign. McBride was the first openly transgender person to address a major party political convention when she spoke at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Sarah will give the closing address at brunch on Sunday, March 12, following the “Youth and Our Future” plenary.
The Capital Pride Alliance also has organized Advocacy Day in partnership with Human Rights Campaign. On Thursday March 9, conference attendees may spend the day training and then lobbying on Capitol Hill. It will be the largest annual LGBTQ Congressional Lobby Day in Washington, DC.
The Magic of Pride Conference will serve as the third Northeastern Regional Prides and Prides of the Southeast joint conference (NERP/POSE), which are held every three years.
