Our annual Broadway musical revue Music in the Night will be back on Monday, October 9th at Penn Social! Join us for an evening of song and theatrical performances connecting and fostering local talent in the National Capital Region’s theater community with a performance by Broadway superstar, Claybourne Elder!
Your Co-Directors, Tiffany Lyn Royster and Don Mike Mendoza, have curated a wonderful showcase of amazing local performers. The evenings line up includes, Ben Angeloni, DeMarcus Bolds, Domingx Saint X, JChris, Jarrod Bennett, L. Rodgers, Larry Grey, Miss Kitty, Nia Monae, and Rizwan Jagani.

Penn Social is creating some delicious meals to pair with our incredible entertainment. There are two seating options for this event and a meal choice (optional) may be purchased at an additional cost. If you do not want to purchase a meal option, food can be purchased from the bar beginning at intermission.

Performing live at this year’s Music in the Night is Broadway superstar, Claybourne Elder!
Claybourne Elder is a Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel nominee and was most recently seen on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of Company with Patti LuPone and as John Adams on HBO’s The Gilded Age. He is known for his performances on Broadway in Bonnie and Clyde, Sunday in the Park with George, and Torch Song. He also appeared in Sondheim on Sondheim at the Hollywood Bowl, Road Show at the Public Theatre, Tennessee William’s One Arm (Drama Desk Nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Play), Do I Hear A Waltz at City Center, Allegro at Classic Stage (Lortel Nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical), Two by Two (Starring Jason Alexander) and Venice at the Public Theatre. He has premiered works by Stephen Sondheim, Frank Wildhorn, Bill Finn, Richard Maltby, and David Shire and has appeared on 5 Broadway cast albums.
More About Tiffany Lyn Royster
Tiffany Lyn Royster (She/They) is a singer, actor, and activist in the Washington D.C. area. Ministering through song and performance art, Tiffany Lyn advocates for human rights and LGBTQ+ rights with Capital Pride Alliance where she is the celebration chair for the organization, international organization, InterPride, where she sits on the Global Advisory Council and United States Association of Prides where she sits as a District Vice President. She has performed in many shows and cabarets at places such as The Kennedy Center, Hamilton Live!, Anacostia Arts Center; more recently Olney Theatre Center in World Premiere Musical “A.D. 16” and has credit as a backup singer for Michael Bublé.
More About Don Mike Mendoza
Don Michael “Don Mike” Mendoza (He/Him) is an independent marketing professional serving as the first Director of Marketing & Media for the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles, California. Concurrently, he is the Co-Founder and Executive Artistic Director of LA TI DO Productions where he’s collectively produced more than 400 cabarets, concerts, theatrical shows, and events throughout Washington, DC (Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company, The Kennedy Center), New York City (Dramatists Guild Foundation, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Bowery Poetry Club), Los Angeles, his hometown of Pittsburgh, and beyond, since 2012.
He recently played a supporting role in the independent film The Girl Who Left Home, The Musical Feature (October 2020) alongside Paolo Montalban (Whitney Houston’s Cinderella) where he also served as an Associate Producer. He is also the creator of his blog and host of the podcast of the same name: Producing While Asian and is the co-host of Kabayan New York on The Global Filipino Network.
Don Michael is a graduate of The Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh, PA, he holds a B.A. in Musical Theatre & Journalism and an M.A. in Strategic Communication from American University, and is an alumnus of the Commercial Theater Institute in New York City. He currently sits on the American University Alumni Board and serves on the Board of Directors for The Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh.

More About Caro Dubberly
Since moving to the DMV from North Texas in 2016, Caro has performed in numerous productions in the area, including shows at Studio Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, The Kennedy Center, Imagination Stage, Avant Bard, Keegan, Monumental Theatre, Solas Nua, and Center Stage in Baltimore. They serve as the acting teacher for the prestigious Musical Theater Conservatory program at Imagination Stage and direct the middle school plays and musicals at Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of Our Nation’s Capital. Caro’s musical, A Guide to Modern Possession, was a semi-finalist for the 2023 Eugene O’Neill Musical Theatre Conference, and they are currently collaborating as the composer on two brand new musicals. Later this month, see Caro onstage at Atlas in Mosaic Theater’s production of Confederates by Dominique Morisseau.
More About DeMarcus Bolds
DeMarcus Bolds is a highly accomplished tenor hailing from Dallas, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he excelled both academically and artistically. During his time in Washington, D.C., he collaborated with string quartets and choruses, including the National Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, as a member of the esteemed University of Maryland Chamber Singers.
DeMarcus has also been a distinguished member of The Houston Symphony Chorus and The Phillip Hall Singers, and served as manager of The Choraleers. His exceptional talents have landed him significant roles in numerous musical productions and world premieres, including C.C. White in Dreamgirls, Hello, Dolly!, Life Stories, Sweeney Todd, Andre in Ain’t Misbehavin’, and Feels, Thrills and Trainwrecks.
In recent years, Bolds has been part of numerous operatic and choral productions with the Maryland Lyric Opera, such as Pagliacci, Cavaleria Rusticana, Falstaff, and Otello, and with CAAPA and PostClassical Ensemble in Amazing Grace: Music for the Spirit. He has also taken part in productions with The Annapolis Opera Company, where he played the role of Johannes Parfuri in Lost in the Stars, and with INSeries Opera, where he played David in John Adam’s I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, and a soloist in The National Symphony Orchestra’s recorded performance of Walker’s Sinfonía 5. Bolds’ extensive experience and undeniable talent make him a highly sought-after performer in the world of opera and musical theatre.

More About Jarrod Bennett
Jarrod’s interest in the performing art began at a young age. He began playing trumpet in elementary school and quickly picked up multiple brass instruments over the years. As a teenager he was introduced to vocal jazz which ultimately led him to the University of Southern Maine’s School of Music where he studied music education and vocal performance. Jarrod Has performed in Okianwa, South Korea, Iceland, Cuba and all over the United States. He currently sings with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC and Rock Creek Singers.

L. Rodgers is an LGBTQIA+ Americana/Soul artist and songwriter from Baltimore, MD. She began writing her own music after experiencing a trauma she couldn’t speak about, but found she could sing about. As a survivor, Rodgers music is heavily inspired by how her past experiences have shaped her perspective. Her powerful voice, poignant lyrics and undeniably catchy melodies are only amplified by her delivery and ability to appear so vulnerable but with undeniable strength and unbelievable presence. With one look at L. Rodgers; her shaved head, extensive tattoo collection, and queer camp style, it’s clear to see that she was meant to stand out and make her voice heard. Rodgers has built a community of over 290k people on Tik Tok in less than a year by sharing her story through songs. She hopes to reach the millions of people who may be going through hard times but still want to pursue their dreams.

Nia Monaé is a dancer, model, and 3X Wammie Award-winning artist from PG County. In 2022 she won the Wammies for Best Rap Artist, Best Rap Song & Best Rap Album. She has been seen performing on Channel 9 News this year and has since been making herself known around the DMV area.

Rizwan Jagani is a violist of Indian and Pakistani heritage. He has been performing on the viola for more than 20 years and is currently working on his doctoral degree at The Catholic University of America. He has made a name for himself by combining his Classical training with other musical styles such as Pop, Musical Theatre, Bollywood, and more.
