The Queer Pillars of American Poetry
Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman, considered by many to be the foundation stones of modern American poetry, will be discussed, and participants will be asked to consider the miraculous unlikelihood of these two grandparents and the ways they can inspire our approaches to poetry. Led by Dan Vera, co-editor of Imaniman: Poets Writing in the Anzaldúan Borderlands and author of two books of poetry, Speaking Wiri Wiri and The Space Between Our Danger and Delight. Dan is one of five LGBTQ+ Poets-in-Residence at the Arts Club of Washington for 2023.
