CAPITAL PRIDE TO REVEAL 2019 THEME, ANNOUNCE PRIDE 2019 IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL FOR YEAR MARKING 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF STONEWALL UPRISING
THE NATION’S CAPITAL PREPARES FOR
HISTORIC YEAR MARKING 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF STONEWALL UPRISING
Washington DC, February 1, 2019…….On January 31, the Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) hosted its annual “Reveal” event at City Winery, announcing the theme for Capital Pride 2019: shhhOUT: Past, Present & Proud. As 2019 marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riots, Pride celebrations across the country will be reflecting on their own history as well as a milestone in LGBTQ+ rights.
“We are thrilled and excited for a year of events and community collaboration celebrating our theme, shhhOUT: Past, Present & Proud in the National Capital Region, said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of the Capital Pride Alliance (CPA). “We look forward to the community participating in the many diverse Pride events offered in the Nation’s Capital, from Youth Pride, Silver Pride, Capital Trans Pride, DC Black Pride, DC Latinx Pride, and API Pride,” continued Bos.
“Throughout our history and still today there are forces that try to silence and erase our community,” said Ashley Smith, President of the Board of Directors of the CPA. “We must always be willing to stand up and speak out against injustice, discrimination and violence, and is the spirit of our theme this historic year,” continued Smith. “In 2019, we must give a ‘shhhOUT,’ to our past and present, and commit to continuing to SHOUT OUT proudly as we move forward,” concluded Smith.
The Capital Pride Alliance is excited to collaborate with the following organizations to create Pride 2019 in the Nation’s Capital. This is a new approach that will highlight the variety of Pride events offered to the community in the National Capital Region. A joint webpage will provide easy access to each event’s website. In addition, the events from these Prides will be included in the 2019 Guide to Pride in the Nation’s Capital, which will be available at each venue.
