CAPITAL TRANS PRIDE RETURNS WITH NEW ROSTER OF WORKSHOPS AND THE RESOURCE FAIR

Annual Event Celebrates Transgender Community In The National Capital Region

Washington, D.C., May 3, 2016 – Capital Trans Pride will take place on Saturday, May 21, at the Reeves Municipal Center, 2000 14th St NW, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This annual event brings together members of the Trans community, allies, colleagues and friends for a day of workshops and panel discussions on a variety of issues important to the Trans community. The day provides multiple forums to educate and inform participants on progress and regress in the region and in the nation, and a Resource Fair with more than 25 organizations. In addition to the educational aspects of the day, visual artists and performers from the Trans community are scheduled to participate throughout the day as part of the celebration.

Confirmed workshops for Capital Trans Pride include Being a Supportive and Successful Trans Ally 2.0; Prep 101: Your Guide to HIV Prevention led by Whitman-Walker Health; Resume Testing for Employment Discrimination led by DC Office of Human Rights; Sex on Our Own Terms: Sexual Liberation for Trans/Genderqueer Bodies; and, Know Your Rights: TQYouth Power led by SMYAL.

“Capital Trans Pride brings together the community for a day of both celebration and the sharing of important information that may change the lives of those who attend,” said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of the Capital Pride Alliance. “The transgender community has made significant headway regarding visibility, empowerment, and rights, and there is reason to celebrate. At the same time, we must all continue to work to secure these rights going forward.”

Since its inception in 2008, the Capital Pride Alliance has been involved in the production of Capital Trans Pride. Sponsors for Capital Trans Pride include Whitman-Walker Health, Kaiser Permanente, The DC Office of Human Rights, La Clinica Del Pueblo-Empoderate Center, SMYAL, DC Center HIV Working Group, Nova Transyouth, and Booz Allen Hamilton.
